It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person…

Sup Maggie. A couple weeks back, I read the secret history and in a few ways it reminded me of the raven cycle. Like it was nothing like it really, but the Monmouth thing really struck me, and how Adam and Richard from TSH are both poor with rich friends. And then I saw you did a review, so I was wondering if the secret history influenced the raven cycle a little bit? I've just thought about It a lot I guess.

Sup. Yes, I reviewed The Secret History (and really loved it) back in July of 2012. I suspect that part of why I loved it is because reading it scratched some of same itches as writing The Raven Cycle.

But I can’t consider it an inspiration: I only picked up The Secret History in 2012, years and years after its publication, because early reviewers of The Raven Boys noted that they had a similar vibe, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Books that were inspirations, though: Susan Cooper’s the Dark is Rising sequence.

I always thought The Raven Cycle had a slight The Dark is Rising vibe! Nice to know it wasn’t just in my head.
